Navigating the internal “Inquisition” without losing your job
Navigating the internal “Inquisition” without losing your job
● Who this helps: Individual responders being “checked out” by their own department after a citizen complaint or internal report.
● What happens next: You are served an “order to appear.” We meet with you beforehand to review the allegations. During the interview, we act as your shield against “badgering” and ensure the investigators stay within the scope of the notice.
● What to bring: The IA Notice, any reports you wrote related to the call, and names of co-workers who were witnesses.
● FAQs:
○ Do I have to answer their questions? Yes, if you are given a “Garrity” warning. Refusal can get you fired for insubordination.
○ Can I see the evidence against me first? Often yes, depending on your contract. We demand “discovery” before you speak.
○ Can they record me? Yes, and we will record them too to ensure the transcript is 100% accurate.
